Exterior wall coatings
A wall coating is for a surface that is still sound. We look at the existing paint or render around Kensington, then say what a new coat would involve.
An exterior coating is not a new render. It is a protective film — often thicker than ordinary house paint — over masonry or render that is still bonded. Houses around Kensington and the nearby suburbs pick up sun on west walls, rain on weather faces, and easterly weather that dries paint out until it looks dusty. A coating is a way to close that surface again, if the wall underneath can take it.
On a visit we look at chalking, peeling, hairline cracks, moss on shaded sides, and whether the existing film is still stuck. We tap the render. If it is hollow, coating over it only hides the hollow for a while. Those patches have to be cut out and made good first. Garden soil against the bottom course, overflowing gutters, and failed sills are part of the same look — a coating does not fix a wet wall.
A typical sequence is wash, repairs, then the coating system the wall can carry. How many coats, and whether a primer is needed, follows the surface we find, not a package named on this page. Access still matters: a two-storey wall on a boundary is a different day from a front fence-height wall.
The quote depends on preparation more than on the product name. Square metres, height, how much old paint has to come off, and whether repairs sit in the same visit all change the figure. We do not publish a litre rate here.
